Mermaiding

Mermaiding

Is mermaiding the new trend sport? Most of us are familiar with  “The little mermaid” by Hans Christian Anderson or “Ariel” by Disney.  But did you know that you can get your own fin, join a mermaid class or even become a certified mermaid instructor?

For starters, let us explain: When “mermaiding”, you swim like a fish using both legs as a fish tail. Your mermaid tail is a stretch fabric that goes up to the waist and has a monofin attached at the end. You will thus keep your legs together and use your core muscles to propel forward. Supposedly the perfect workout to trim your tummy!

Philippines and Germany have mermaid schools already, professional mermaids can be hired all over the world to top up your next pool party and even Singapore is riding on the next mermaid wave.

Here is how you can take part in the mermaid fun:

  1. Swish Swimming offers swim classes for ~$25 a session, classes are during the day and you have to sign up for a term, varying from 9-11 weeks. Contact [email protected] to know more.
  2. Singapore’s first mermaid Syrena offers mermaid shows and kidz classes. She told us that she can also rent tails and fins. Contact [email protected] to know more.
